Nobody Should Be Rich

Updated: Apr 11, 2024

Rich /riCH/ adjective: 1. having a great deal of money or assets; wealthy of expensive materials or workmanships; demonstrating wealth 2. plentiful; abundant having a particular thing in large amounts (of food) containing a large amount of fat, spices, sugar, etc. 3. producing a large quantity of something 4. (of a color, sound, smell, etc.) pleasantly deep or strong 5. Interesting because full of diversity or complexity 6. (of a remark) causing ironic amusement or indignation These are Google's definitions of the word, "rich." As we can see, there are numerous ways to use to word. However, we will be focusing on one more than the other in this post. Can you guess which one? If you are a terrible guesser, never fear, I am here to tell you the answers. For the purposes of this exercise, we will use the first definition or the first as it regards to money, to narrate the issue at hand. As you read by the title, I simply do not think anyone should be rich. Some might be thinking, "how selfish of you to say such a thing" but is it really? Or does the selfishness lie behind the rich and you are a rich person who feels attacked? Yeah, I'm talking to you, Karen. Anyway, I digress. A few weeks ago, I got to thinking. Why are there so many rich people and so many poor people on this continent? To go even further, in the world? As a young teenager exiting her teen years, I would have assumed that in the land of the brave a free, all these people with many zeroes sitting on the screen every time they check their virtual bank accounts would have donated it to somebody by now, I mean like anybody at this point. There are so many people in existence with dire need and no one but a shitty government to "help" but really mask the problem. I just do not think anyone should be rich. Look at how they abuse their powers and don't even give back to premature babies or people with breast cancer. There is so much money in the world and much of it has been placed in the wrong hands. Now don't get me wrong, I respect everyone that has gone out there and made an honest hustle. Fuck all you scammers who have stolen from the rich, poor, middle-class to elevate yourself, that just simply ain't right... I know you gotta make a living too but there are other ways. If you won't listen to me. I guarantee you'll figure it out, hopefully before it is too late. I give extra respect to those who are a product of generational wealth because although you did not choose to be born rich, your people before you cared enough about themselves and the ones that came after them to set you up for success from before you were born. My utmost respect goes to those folks who ground and built an empire from the ground up. Now, to get back to my rant, THERE SHOULD NOT BE A SINGLE RICH PERSON ON THIS EARTH. Allow me to explain that notion. When I got to thinking about how there are so many homeless and hungry people, just in my city alone, that do not receive assistance from the powers that be, I realized that even though they were placed in an unfortunate circumstance for whatever the reason may be, that does not give anyone more power over them (the richest person could easily end up there in a heartbeat or vice versa) and it certainly does not leave room for them to be judged, although many people forget that. Aside from the homeless people, there are still so many people who are dying or living a poor quality of life unnecessarily just because there are very very very rich people who are hogging money. Not even money at that, but numbers that represent monetary values; numbers on a touchscreen, one like many of us have today. My viewpoint is that everyone is here to help everyone else and if we all could do that, everyone would be helped and there would not be so much want or need in any community, and certainly less crime as people would be living in the means that they were meant to be. So again, nobody should be rich. You might be wondering how I could still be saying that after all I have said about people who need the money more than others. Well here is the dill pickle: nobody should be rich because once a person makes a certain amount, they should be required to give it back to someone or some people in need before they can make more. If that were the case, everyone would eventually have money and I'm not just talking chump change. I am talking millions and billions where some of the selfish rich people sit, meaning that we'd all be sitting up there, meaning that there wouldn't be such thing as rich or poor... just people with money. Therefore, nobody would be rich or rather, everyone would be "rich" technically speaking. The thing some people forget to remember is everyone on this green earth was born with the same opportunities and yet, some of us will never reach our full potentials solely because of the wicked system(s) we were born into and that's only to mention the lack of wealth, and much less generational wealth, circulating in certain minority communities. You could be the one to say, "well he is just lazy. He could be a big-time CEO like me" or something of the sort but I am here to confirm that you probably do not belong to a minority group with that kind of talk. Trust me, I am sure he would be the owner if he could, but the reality is, he was not born with the same resources due to the physical differences between you two. If that does not make sense, interview some people of the same position with different backgrounds (ie sex, religion, race, abilities, etc.) on their experiences in the workplace and on their rise to their spot. I guarantee some might have more mere privilege than others. Talk about the "scammetry." Overall, I want to see us all succeed but we have to want to see ourselves and others succeed to truly succeed. Sometimes all it takes is a simple conversation, one that is deeply rooted and will shift an internal change on the way you think and view the world and her inhabitants. One thing that we should never let slip our minds is that every soul on this planet deserves to be "rich" and able to live a comfortable and luxurious lifestyle just like anyone else. After reading this blog post, do you agree that no one should be rich or do you have another take on the topic? Leave a comment on how you view this argument. Don't be afraid to say something to stir up the water and get the conversations flowing. As always, thanks for reading!
